A Martian Seismic Dataset of InSight's Very Broad Band Seismic Data with Basic Denoising Processing
Description:The Interior exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (InSight) mission, launched by NASA, is focused on the interior structure and processes of Mars. The Seismic Experiment for Interior Structure (SEIS) carried out by InSight, presented valuable data to study the Mars’ interior structure and tectonics. The SEIS seismometer of the InSight mission started data collection on December 19, 2018, and ceased on December 22, 2022, due to a power shortage, after operating for 1,447 Martian sols.
However, the publicly released raw data from InSight Mission contain various sources of noise, such as tick noise and glitches, which pose challenges for further seismological researchers. Here the dataset presented is a processed dataset of the InSight's Very Broad Band seismic data after several typical non-seismic noise suppression.
Raw data of VBB sensors is downloaded from IRIS (https://www.iris.edu/hq/sis/insight), at a rate of 20 sps. And then a series of step-by-step processing performed, including suppression of tick noise, glitch signal suppression, multi-component synchronization, instrument response correction, and orthogonal rotation. The processed data is segmented by the Martian day, with each segment covering one hour before and one hour after the sol (e.g., data for Sol 235 is segmented from Sol 234, 23:00 LMST to Sol 236, 01:00 LMST).
The proceed datasets and the codes are openly accessible, which will support ongoing efforts to explore Mars' geophysical properties and contributes to the broader field of planetary seismology.
